Open Studio & Artist Demonstration
Spring Student Art Show
Value study in black and white
Time: 12:30pm – 2:00pm
Value refers to the darks and lights within an image which is one of the most important of the visual elements. Value is what gives objects form and volume where otherwise they would fall flat. Join John as he demonstrates a value study using black and white oil paint in a simple still life. The goal will be to study the value arrangements and the relationship between dark and light values and how they create form.
Painting the eye (with a cast shadow)!
Robert Louis Caldwell
Time: 2:30pm – 4:00pm
Painting an eye can be frustrating but add a cast shadow and it can become intimidating. Watch artist Robert Louis Caldwell demonstrate his technique to paint an eye with a cast. He has a four stage painting progress, from the initial line drawing, to the tonal painting, under painting and finally the over painting,
these four steps will be presented on the same panel. Robert will be painting on the final over painting stage during the demonstration, the stage where the magic happens!
Please join Robert at the studio while he demonstrates how to paint grass and feel free to ask questions.
